Meet the Wanderist, Kassia Meador. Dubbed by the New York Times as "the queen of noseriding," Kassia is a retired pro-longboarder and the Founder of premium surfwear brand KASSIA + SURF. Salt + Snow Co-Founder Kathy recently met up with Kassia in Los Angeles, where they chatted all things surfing, community and adventure. Traveling down the road less traveled to see what is around the corner and discover something new

Ditch my phone and open my eyes to what is in front of me

THREE THINGS YOU CAN’T TRAVEL WITHOUT:

Surfboard, Sunblock, Foam Roller

HOW YOU GOT STARTED SURFING:

My dad was a surfer and I always dreamed of getting out in the water with him. In the summers we would go to the beach and I would float around on a board. But it wasn't until I did junior lifeguards and learned about the ocean that I got a chance to start surfing with my dad and my whole world changed.

TIPS FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO START SURFING:

Get out there with a few friends and have fun. Surfing is the best and also very humbling so know you are going to fall, have fun with it and remember it takes a lifetime to master so don't get frustrated, enjoy the ride. I also created a learn to surf online guide with my friends at the The Inertia and Inspire courses. It is a super great guide and can really help support you and your surfing journey.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY?:

Gosh I have a lot of role models. I guess from the surf world it would be Rell Sunn. I never had the chance to meet her but I have heard so many stories from people who knew her. Hearing how much community spirit, love and aloha she shared and created with so many people and how that continues to grow to this day, long after she is gone, is really inspiring to me.

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPERPOWER WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?:

I would want to fly for sure. I have always wanted to fly and experience this magical world from a different vantage point.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST MOTIVATOR AND WHY?:

My biggest motivator is creativity and doing things different
